Ha, and those guys at toms payed $1000 more than i did for my system.

I've been researching water cooling a bit, but i don't want to do it until i'm positive i understand how to do it correctly and get the most out of it. I'll most likely throw it in when i upgrade my CPU next, which will probably be in 6 months to a year.

From what I've read about it, the usb flash drive boost thing isn't all that worth it because flash drives still have fairly slow timings compared to actual RAM. However, solid state memory will always be faster than spinning disks so it may increase performance a bit especially if you are working with a bunch of smaller files on your hard drive.

    3dMark06:
My old comp 3dMark06 score: 9,317

My new comp 3dMark06 score: coming soon!

Well I just finished my computer yesterday. Worked perfectly with first boot-up, but once I started getting software installed, a few problems arose, but nothing big. Now I'm just working on installing everything again. Already OC'ed the CPU to 3.6, I'll have to get PC 8500 (1066) RAM to get higher and keep the system stable. I'll run 3dMark after I get off work today.

Ok, well this is cool news...

My new 3dmark 06 score on my laptop: 9,230

The difference -> I overclocked the processor to 2.3ghz from 2.0ghz. That is a pretty big difference for such a small change. And the best part, there was zero change in temperature on the processor! Besides that, the battery life also remained completely the same. I've not been able to find a single ill effect normally associated with overclocking when i OC'ed my laptop's core 2 duo. It's unbelievable....

I'll post a laptop overclocking guide at one point or another.

I don't overclock. Yes, it's a boring, but reliable system. Game graphics set to high settings. Windows XP Pro installed even though Micro$oft stopped selling it retail since they now have Vista. Maybe I'll get Vista when M$ gets to service pack 2 or 3, but never for this system.

I put this system together about 9 months ago under $2000.

Motherboard: Intel D975XBX2 ATX i975X Desktop
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz G0 stepping
RAM: Corsair 2GB (matched pair of 1GB) DDR2 6400 @800mhz 4-4-4-12 timings (changed settings from default of 5-5-5-18; set mobo mem voltage up per mem spec)
Video Card: Dual ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB, (operating in Crossfire mode)
    Sound Card:
built-in to mobo (IDT High Definition Audio)
Hard Drives 1 thru 4: 4 x Seagate 80 GB SATA 7200 RPM w/ NCQ. These are configured at two hardware controlled RAID.
    1. RAID 5 (striped with error correction) for my system, configuration, and data files.
    2. RAID 0 (striped) for my applications and swap space.
Hard Drive 5: Seagate 250 GB SATA 7200 RPM w/ NCQ for bulk storage and temporary large (video) application buffers.
OS: Windows XP Professional SP2 32-bit
    Monitors (three):
    1. One Viewsonic VA2226w-3 22" widescreen 1680x1050 (often use for games in full screen)
    2. Two Dell 1907FP 19" standard 1280x1024 (for other stuff like server and TS monitor, documents, etc.)

Are you guys just using the default 3d Mark06 settings for your score or changing it to different settings?

All scores should be set using the default settings.

And, bear in mind BBC is correct.

I'll find a copy of 3DMark06 and add that one.

Quite an increase just for buying a $160 video card.

Also, I know Toolmaster was interested in how 4GB of RAM performs and I can tell you that I notice the difference in application load times and also even in the load times for the 3DMark tests but the RAM probably didn't influence my 3DMark score by much. But I do notice that applications load much quicker even though I only have 3.5 GB of RAM.

    I'll try overclocking later...

    Help

I need you to educate me...

my computer can take ddr2 800 that is its tops for my motherboard,
so what would be the best in that area.

what does a power source do for your computer....I have a Roswill 350 right now.

and someone told me that if I get a bigger card It will choke my mother board?

    Let me know thanks
