    New minimod patch!

    Okay lads. With the map downloads for this week, there is also a patch file for the BFE-WAW minimod. This patch has updated many of the small arms weapon code. A lot of effort was put into this code and so far the results are very promising. It also means that we will be including the SMG kits as spawnable kits once again in our maps!!! So, make sure that you troopers out there try out the infantry arms with the new patch in getting ready for the battles this week. Here is the current list of weapons that have been tweaked and adjusted.

    Someone should put this rolling 24/7 on some server so we could test all the weapon codes and get used to them... I myself have no clue HOW those weapons have been changed...

    EDIT: Is there detailed list of changes anywhere?

    Well, the thing is, the detailed list of changes wouldn't be very helpful to you. I have completely remodelled the small arms weapons coding from scratch.

    What does this mean for you who don't care about code and just want to play with it?

    First, the FH dev team was using a formula based on kinetic energy to calculate weapon damage. I have based my calculations on a formula called the Taylor Index, which takes into account bullet diameter.

    Next, the weapons will have a lot more inaccuracy than you are used to. SMGs will only be usable at close range. MGs will only be used prone. Rifles are more powerful again, have a greatly reduced gravity modifier (read: no visible bullet drop in the ranges in BF), and are in general going to be a lot more viable again. All weapons will be very deadly inside the ranges they should be deadly, though scaled down to meet BF's visible ranges (only to 300m or 400m depending on the map, when effective ranges for iron sighted rifles would be 800m or so).

    Sniper rifles will be very deadly at all ranges. Pistols can be used but I wouldn't try it outside 25m to 50m. If you are a rifleman you'll probably want to pull out your pistol before you enter a building. The crosshairs will open up a lot larger than you are used to but will close to 'good' accuracy quickly, and then be much slower to get to optimal accuracy. The first shot of MGs will be like a rifle shot, but automatic weapons will need to be fired in bursts if you want to hit anything.

    The PPSh is still the best SMG, having a much greater range and rate of fire than the others, but the STG44 is probably the best overall weapon on the field. The BAR and FG42 are very nasty as well. I doubt you will see any of those weapons (except the PPSh) as spawnable kits, they will probably only be pickup kits unless one side has a real advantage elsewhere.

    The BF engine is very limiting in some ways, but I personally think that the small arms model we have now has what we see in battles play out much more like they would in a real battle, with each type of weapon having its role on the battlefield and its strengths and weaknesses. I believe this is going to make battles more fun and force teams to use more tactics. I hope you enjoy playing with these babies as much as I have enjoyed remaking them.

    Well, I didn´t yet try it out, but the way I see it, is that this mod can´t run on the pub server, as the pubbies wouldn´t eb able to connect right?

    So the only time we play with the changed code will be in battles? Or is it included on our server with a server side patch.

    Would be a pain to play with different weapons and to get used to each every other day so I´d say get it on the server

    As far as I know non of the maps have french troops... There are some french weaponry and tanks (atleast a rifle looking like made out of legos and bugged Somua) but they aren't used officially anywhere... Somua we saw at the Fall Weiss battle. It was immune to ATR fire but all the Axis tankers said it still was a piece of...

    In the divisional practice last night we were stalled because the practice servers have this new patch on them and none of us had heard of it. We all kept crashing for some reason. So the new patch is on both the practice servers and I assume will be in the battles as well.

    The minimod will not run during Public Server times, as the public would have to download the mod, too. And this is not something that we can expect them to do and will not get new people on the server.

    A long-held ambition for WaW is slowly being realised, good jobs guys

    Will we see an easy-to-understand change list?
    For us and our troops it might be nice to be able to just show some bullet points saying: -Mp40/Thompson/whatever 50% shorter range than FH, -Pistols have higher kickback but higher damage.

    If it was possible I'd like an even more detailed list. For example Colt 100% damage increase. Three times bigger recoil. Bigger crosshair spread etc. Well.. I gues you don't have the time, so we should just play around and find everything out our self.

    I don't have that because I didn't change weapons, I REDID the weapons.

    If you want to see the master spreadsheet I keep my data in as I work on it, I am happy to provide it. I have one from 0.65 and 0.61 as well. You're welcome to draw your own comparisons from that.
