I'm looking at buying a 20 inch LCD monitor and was wondering if you folks have any suggestions as to what features and such I should look at to make a good decision. I've only had CRT so far so this is a whole new world for me.

Pretty much the best monitor that money can buy for 320 bucks.

3000:1 Contrast (need to use DVI to get this)
2ms Response!!!!

The best monitor i've seen on newegg for the price hands down.

Look for the lowest ms response time you can find in a monitor you can afford.

I have two Viewsonics, one 18' and one 19".

You cannot beat Viewsonic for quality.

Why not use widescreen for gaming?

Seems to be pretty good from what I can see.

All the recent games support widescreen resolutions.

Only trouble you get going from CRT to LCD, is the LCD likes to, is made to operate at its native resolution, it's max.

There is a significant drop in image quality if you select a lower resolution.

For instance, my 20" widescreen works best at 1680 x 1050. When playing games at a lower resolution, due to performance issues, the results are not very satisfactory. Even though I can offsett the jagged edges with Anti-aliasing.

My suggestion is to make sure your computer can handle the resolution, for both desktop and games.

And get one with DVI. All graphics cards have one port, unless yours is very old, and the image quality is much better. There are manufacturers that sell cheaper, bigger monitors without DVI. Don't. The colors are much more alive with DVI.

Things to look:

-Contrast. higher is better.
-response time. lower is better.
-dot pitch. lower is better.
-DVI or not DVI.

Plenty of info on this forum.

I would go widescreen, I think all games will support it in the future and plenty do now, but 1942 and bf2 do not but there are work arounds.
