Default Getting Started at WaW - START HERE

Starting Tutorial Part 1: Getting Started at WaW
Last update: May 16th 2010, WaW 21 - FH2.26 release

Quote:
This guide only contains the essentials to get started and enjoy the WaW-community. It's important to know that this community is entirely based around the forum and not the mainpage. The forum contains the strategies, map download links, division planning and all other important information. So if you want to become an active member, hang around on the forum! The mainpage contains regular news updates as well as the battle map, showing the ongoing campaign.
1. Army-organization:
After you have registered in the forums by clicking , you will need to join one of the 2 armies.

To join an army, click on the button here, or on the main page. You will then be assigned to either the Allied or the Axis army randomly and gain access to your army's forums.

Each army has it own forums where all the relevant information like battle dates, strategies, map links for that army can be found. Have a quick look there and check the barracks of the army which you are assigned to. Usually all important information is stickied. Don't get scared by the huge amount of them, not all are relevant for you.

Allied forums
The 62nd Canadian Cavalry Brigade "Jabberwocky" can be found here

Axis forums
The 61. Karjalan Kaarti can be found here

2. Signing up for a company:
To be able to participate battles and practices you must sign up for a company in the army which you are assigned to!
To do that please visit the sign up thread of your army.

Allied Signup Thread
The 62nd Canadian Cavalry Brigade "Jabberwocky" Sign up Thread can be found here

Axis Signup Thread
The 61. Karjalan Kaarti Signup Thread can be found here

3. Meet your company mates and change your tags:

Tags are used to identify you and act as your uniform in battle on the server, on TeamSpeak and on the forums. Check your division forum for details on how to set them up.
You can use the Prefix changer to do it.

Allied New Player Information
The 62nd Canadian Cavalry Brigade New Player Information thread can be found here

Axis New Player Information
The 61. Karjalan Kaarti New Player Information can be found here

4. TeamSpeak:
We use TeamSpeak to communicate during battles or just to meet each other and play together on a public server. TeamSpeak can be downloaded here. All information about setting up TeamSpeak can be found here. Just try it out and meet your buddies live! If you still have questions simply make a post in the forums. TeamSpeak is up 24/7!

A microphone is not required, but is highly recommended and necessary if you want to climb up in rank. Besides that it isn't expensive nowadays. If you haven't got a microphone, you can communicate on TeamSpeak by clicking on a person with your right mouse button, and then select "Send text message to player".

5. Further information:
You should now be able to move around the forums and find your way on TeamSpeak. If you still have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them! You can open a thread, PM your Captain/Kapteeni or just make a post in your company barracks.

Starting Tutorial Part 2: Participating in Battles
This is a continuation of the starting for WaW guide. The emphasis in this guide will be on all information on rules and procedures necessary for playing in battles. You should now be able to find your way in the army barracks. If not, please have a look at the WaW starting tutorial part 1. Again this guide only contains the essentials.

6. Dates, time and duration:
Battles are on Saturday. Each battle starts at 1700 GMT / 1200 EST and ends at 0400 GMT / 2300 EST. So each battle lasts for exactly 11 hours. This doesn't mean you have to play the entire 11 hours. You can play as much or as little as you want!

7. Game & Mod Installation
*These only need to be done once*
  1. Install Battlefield 2 (you have bought this)
  2. Install BF2 Large Patch 1.41
  3. Install BF2 Patch 1.5 (incremental)
  4. Install FH 2.26 Full Install Part 1
  5. Install FH 2.26 Full Install Part 2
  6. List of mirrors to download FH2
  7. Install WaW Minimod
  8. Install Teamspeak3 Client
  9. Configure Teamspeak3

8. Server Address:
The server address is always given in the strategy topic together with the password. The server name is World at War bfewaw.com Public FH2.26 and the IP address is 174.133.0.58:16567. The password can be found in the strategy thread in your army's barracks.

9. Pre-Battle Preparation:
Always make sure you are prepared before you join a battle. The key to preparation is to know the strategy and company assignments. The general strategy can be found in the army barracks, the company strategy in your company barracks. To make sure you know what every company is expected to do, it can help to print out the strategy or make some notes.

10. Some general rules during battles:

Before joining report to the waiting room and join only after permission is given
Chain of command is in effect during the battles. Orders should always be followed.
Don't overuse TeamSpeak or spam in to your company channel
Using all-chat (public-chat) ingame is strictly prohibited. Use team-chat instead.
Only play for the team you are assigned to
You must wear the correct tags
Friendly fire is on! So TK's are a possibility, but excessive and deliberate TK-ing will result in a kick and ban. Don't get angry at your teammates when you get TK-ed, they are part of the game and are never done intentional.
Respect your enemy and teammates during and after the battle

11. Leaving the battle:
Before you are leaving the server, you should report to your commander that you are about to leave. Also drop by the waiting room to tell them that there is a slot free on the server, so that a new player can join.

12. Getting kicked
If you are kicked (and after repeatedly being kicked you will get banned) you probably didn't follow one of the procedures as described above. You probably didn't ask for permission to join the server, you were not on TeamSpeak, you were not following orders, you didn't followed the general rules as explained by point 10 or you showed any other behavior not wanted. If you think you are kicked due to irregular reasons please contact your company leader.
